To begin, lets take a look at some numbers.  According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (2002) some general characteristics of crime on college campuses are:

41% of the offenders were thought to be using drugs or alcohol
72% of the off-campus crimes occurred between 6PM and 6AM
66% of the assaults were unarmed
